Today, in beautiful conditions, we played a Medal Competition for The Memorial Trophy, not everyone’s favourite format but a true test of golf. We had 42 players including 3 guests, Arne Buhs, Wayne Brander and Jim Hayward. Jim had the dubious honour of hitting the large tree on the 4th tee twice, a rare occurrence.
The results were as follows:
1st, winning the trophy with a great score of 69 points off 5.3 handicap was Shaun O’Gorman
2nd was John Evans with a score of 74 points off 20.2
3rd was Penny Barden also with 74 points off 16.7
4th was Bill Pike with 75 points off 16.6
5th was our Captain Dave Phillips with 76 points off 31.2
6th was Derek Lindley with 77 points of 13.1
Shaun also had the lowest gross of the day with 76 points. He also had the nearest the pin, on Hole 16 with 3.26m, a great day’s golf. Bill Pike had the nearest the pin on hole 5, second shot with 2.85m.
The guest prize today was won by Wayne Brander with 81 points.
The Balls In The Water competition was won by Stella Fox correctly guessing 129. There were no 2s today and the card draw was won by Penny Barden, helping to pay for her new golf shirt, bought as she forgot to put one on when she left home this morning.
There were 2 match plays today, Russ Peters beat Paul Trigwell 8 and 7, Carla Chaszczewski beat Ian Robertson 2 up.
Patrick Lynch put up a birthday bottle prize and this was won by Donna Green.
Next week we have a Yellow Ball Competition, guaranteed to have the nerves jangling, any guests wishing to play, subject to handicap contact Penny Barden on pegohandicapsec@gmail.com
