Thirty-one members and 4 guests made their way to Las Colinas to play a stableford competition. The course was in good condition throughout, having improved from the last two visits.
Set up was mid-distance, long enough that those lower handicappers playing in Gold Category returned, as is often the case here, better overall scores than their counterparts in the other two divisions. Only Tony Sims broke par, with Steve Davis the only other member playing to their handicap or better.
However, Steve’s score, and with it the winning of the Silver division, proved well short of that required to defeat Steve Higgins, his adversary, in the 2nd semi-final in this year’s singles matchplay competition. Although garnering one less point, Steve H came through with a resounding 4&3 win and progresses to the final to face Jamie Rorison.
The day’s SMGS stableford competition results, by category and in reverse order, were the following:
Bronze Category: 4th Norman Padmore (32 on CB), 3rd Bella Philips (32 on CB), 2nd Keith Stevenson (33 on CB), and 1st Brian Butler with the same score of 33 points.
Silver Category: 4th Gordon Wilson 31, 3rd Hugh Reilly (32 on CB), 2nd Alan McDonald (32 on CB), and 1st Steve Davis with 36 points
Gold Category: 4th Mick Cook (33), 3rd Tony Smale (35 on CB), 2nd Steve Higgins (35 on CB), and 1st Tony Sims with 37 points.
Nearest the pins on the par 3’s (open to all) went to Mick Cook (holes 5 and 14), Tony Smale (7), Bella Philips (10) and Robin Eastman (17).
The Abacus was won by Peter Hudson
The Best Guest prize went to Gerry Conneybear (31)
Our thanks go to the staff at Las Colinas golf course for their contribution to an enjoyable day.
