The weather was good for golf, not too hot and some cloud cover and although the course was not in pristine condition most of our players enjoyed the unusual format of Portuguese golf, ( no, most us had not heard of it either) With the help of this new format some good scores were recorded, but the shot of the day must go to one of our lady members Natalie Bramhall, who on the tricky hole 17, stroke index 1, chipped her ball which bounced all the way across the metal bridge reaching the fairway the other side for three, brilliant, unfortunately her next shot was not quite so spectacular, but that’s golf !!
The results for the captains day game were as follows, Nearest the pin on the par 3’s were Nigel Wright and Walter Miller, nearest the pin in two, was Ray Batey, best front nine Dave Shelton, best back Dave Jones, in third place was Roger Clarke, second was Ray Batey and the winner for today was Michelle Evans.
Back at the bar good food and good banter continued during the presentation with everyone winning a prize. The enjoyment continued with the captains night out, where we had dancing to live music a few drinks and general merriment, and where the vice captain when giving a vote of thanks made a monumental error thanking the captain with a “w” think about it, it will be some time before he lives that one down. All in all a great captains day enjoyed by all.
