Played at Oliva Nova on Tuesday 8th January 2019
Firstly Ladies and Gentlemen, may I wish a very happy New Year to all the readers and also to all our members and guests.
Today was the first day back, after a winter break for three weeks for the members and the Committee, and we were delighted to have a field of 41 players four of whom were guests for the day. The guests were:- Roy Jones and Jan Jones, Glen Morgan and Georgie Hunter. Our new Captain for 2019, namely Bill Pike, wished everybody a good game today.
It was a beautiful day to play golf, with a slight breeze and the sun was shining all day
We had lots of prizes today, and we started off with the Captain’s first drive, which was wagered on, and with a distance of 218 yards, the winner was Malcolm Wise, who guessed only 8 yards of a difference at 210 yards.. Well done to Bill, for hitting such a good drive under pressure, with everybody watching on the 1st tee.
The course was in excellent condition with fairways and greens getting back to their very best, and the scoring in the competition reflected this. Remember it is pairs betterball.
1st Place with 45 Points was Paul Trigwell and Ian Wiffin
2nd Place with 44 Points was John Evans and Simon Fox
3rd Place with 42 Points was Shaun O’Gorman and Jan Jones
4th Place with 42 points was Stella Fox and David O’Connor
5th Place with 42 Points was Graham Borley and Ian Robertson
So, well done to everybody for some great scoring.
Nearest the pin in Hole 5 was John Guest with 1.7 metres and at hole 16 the closest was Stella Fox with 3.6 metres.
There were 2 two’s today, both by the fairer sex, and they were by Jean Taylor and Suzie Snelling, and balls in the water was correctly guessed by Simon Fox with 111 balls
Next week, we are playing the Pego Cup Medal Competition, which is one of our major trophies, so should you want to join us at Pego, please contact Penny Barden at pegohandicapsec@gmail.com, and we would love to see you.
