What a tremendous turn out of men & women on Saturday, some travelling especially from the UK, to support Prostate Cancer.
Joaquin & his team at Vista Bella have assisted enormously, along with Robin and the staff in the clubhouse, who made sure that all golfers were fed and watered before and after their busy golfing day!
Following registration Richard Morgans from No Grow Grass set up a putting competition to get the day started. 100 € was presented to the best score. Adrian Rudge then spent some time conducting a golf clinic, the consensus being that it was an extremely valuable session.
23 teams then had a 1.15pm shot gun start with doubling up on Holes 3, 5, 10, 14 &18. It was lovely and sunny, quite hot and at times very windy. There were a few balls that drifted into the sand and the water and the occasional tree got in the way, but otherwise the 92 players had an enjoyable golfing experience.
A huge thanks has to go to all the sponsors of the holes: No Grow Grass, PJ´S Rent A Car, Chemies Lounge, Maria & The Pink Ladies, Ken & Aileen Carine, Gossip Bar, Rioja, Bob Chambers, Spain Property Shop, La Fuente, Welcome Estates, The Hub, Villa Martin, Gleam Team, Casa España, La Siesta
Hole 11, sponsored by EURONICS, The Electrical Shop at Blue Lagoon, was a competition hole where golfers paid 10 € and swung like they´ve never swung before to get a HOLE IN ONE and win themselves a 43″ LG Smart TV – on this occasion the tv was not won which resulted in 100 € being given to nearest the pin
And on to the winners: First Prize of a Golf Cart Bag and a trophy, sponsored by Euronics, went to Tony Smale and his team, well deserving winners.
Second Prize of a T Shirt and Golf Towel, sponsored by Albatross Golf, went to John Brownless and his team.
Third Prize of a Golf Cap and Box of Balls sponsored by Prostate Cancer UK went to Richard Morgans and his team.
Back at the club house, John Brownless, an ambassador for PC UK, gave the golfers a short presentation. One of the main things that he spoke about, and very much the object of the day’s competition, was awareness. He said that Prostate Cancer can be detected by a very simple blood test (have you booked one yet?)
Thank you so very much to all the golfers and their family and friends, plus all the background helpers. It was a long but enjoyable day with lots of laughs. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes for the raffle. There were over 22 won by participants.
Extra thanks also has to be given to Tony Smale and all the members of San Miguel GS who not only entered 2 teams but also very generously donated their Blob Tin funds of 500 € boosting the day’s total to an amazing 4806 € for the Prostate cancer charity.
Sunday the golfers changing out of their shorts and shirts and into fine attire where they enjoyed a Charity gala dinner at Las Ramblas golf club. A report on the evening’s event plus the final figures will be provided next week.
Thanks again to everyone for their support – it was absolutely tremendous
