On the 14th of last month, The Celts Club de Golf held our annual AECC Charity Day at La Serena Golf. This year’s event carried special significance, as it was originally planned as our Captain’s Day in honour of Mr. Alan Proudfoot, who sadly passed away just a few weeks prior after a courageous battle with cancer. Alan was dearly loved and is deeply missed by all of us.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to La Serena Golf and their outstanding staff — Jean, Michael, Yolanda, Marijose, Vanessa, Gloria, Karolina, Oscar, Martha, and Jose — for their unwavering support and generous sponsorship on the day.
We were overwhelmed by the generosity of 18 golf courses that donated green fees in aid of the AECC. Your contributions made a significant impact, and we are truly grateful. In addition, we received many kind donations from our members and friends. While we hesitate to name individuals for fear of inadvertently overlooking someone, a few people deserve special mention:
Thank you to our secretary Susy Gomez, vice presidents Denis McCormack and Camillus Fitzpatrick, and to Niall, Terry, Alan, and Henry for your dedication and invaluable help.
To all our members — thank you for your incredible generosity and support.
We are proud to announce that we raised a remarkable total of €5,715 for the AECC. These funds will help support the vital services the AECC provides to both patients and their families facing the challenge of cancer. These services often include:
- Companionship and visiting help in hospitals
- Practical, social, and psychological support
- Physiotherapy and rehabilitation assistance
While AECC’s services are typically delivered in Spanish or the regional languages of Spain, in areas with significant international populations, English-speaking volunteers and professionals are often available.
We’re also pleased to share that a new AECC office has recently opened in San Miguel de Salinas, with Denis McCormack (Vice President), Susy Gomez Garcia (Secretary), and John O’Brien (President). We are available to offer advice and support in both English and Spanish.
Together, we made a difference. Thank you all.
