We played our April Championship for the first time on a Sunday at La Serena last week, we had another 80 plus field. The competition committee have the events running most efficiently, with the first players starting at 8.30 and the presentation of prizes finished by 3pm.
Congratulations to Camillus and his team, Philip Mountford and Terry Fitzgerald for all their fine efforts. To the staff in the pro-shop, John and Jose, thank you for your attention to detail and for preparing the cards and collating the results. Gloria, Vanessa and all the kitchen staff well done as always, we were treated to some lovely tapas, thank you. To Wayne and his team, the course was presented as usual to a very high standard and the new putting green is taking shape nicely.
Our club captain James Hayes was on hand to present the prizes. James again made the point of thanking all the oreganisers and all those who stayed for the presentation to honour those good enough to win a prize. His previous suggestion of wearing the club polo was a major success as the majority of the field donned their shirt. It did look quite impressive especially on the course. Next month we might get the remainder to wear their shirt.
Results of the day, the NTP’s Terry Fitzgerald, Tommy Warren, Karl Di Mascio, Chris Daw, Mike Banfield and Terry Jones. We had one Crystal event during the month and the winners were, Harry Lee 38, second Sally Hopkins 38 and third David Lock 37. Just a little note, I do not keep track of those who collect your prizes on your behalf if you are not present, so please don’t ask me as I don’t know.
Cat. III Anthony Woodward 36, Michael Hooke 34 and Patrick Baker 33. Cat II Gordon Montgomery 35, Michael Banfield 35 and Gordon McCadden 35. Cat I. Pauvla Serakova 36, Eddie Wall 36 and John Doyle O’Brien 34. The gross was won by Robert Smith with 32. Second overall with 37 Ian Sadler and the winner with 39 points Leonard Smith.
We are really making good progress in relation to slow play again might I suggest that players please keep up with the group in front of them. Do not wait until it is your turn to play to start your routine, putting on or taking off your glove, marking and cleaning your ball, selecting your club, measuring your distance for your shot etc. all of these can be done in advance and this will help the smooth flow of the game.
We have a waiting list in operation at the moment for membership at La Serena, however membership of The Celts is always available. If you would like information on joining our club or entering a team in any of the federation events why not send an e-mail to johnobrienalicante@gmail.com or call 615466398?
