Today at Oliva Nova Golf we had 40 players for Captains Day, one of the most important days in our golfing calendar. Our Captain, Dave Phillips organised a great day with help from Malcolm & Anne-Grethe Wise and Elizabeth Grin.
The two ladies toured the course with a buggy loaded with sausage rolls, Scotch pies, sandwiches and various alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I for one made very good use of their services!
Also great thanks to Penny Barden for her hard work in organising the score cards for the match and for checking the score cards. This is not as easy at it may seem as some cards seem to be filled in by Martians or other space creatures who have little knowledge of our language.
The format today was Better Ball Stableford with the Captain’s Team playing against the Vice-Captain’s Team. The final score was an amazing draw with each team having won 15 holes.
There were various raffles of prizes donated by generous people and Dave announced that, including today he had raised 1000 euros during the year for his chosen charity. Our photo today shows Captain Dave in front of the prize-laden table.
Oliva Nova Golf Club provided an excellent buffet lunch, finishing off a very pleasant day. Even the weather was kind as the rain held off until we were all seated at our lunch tables.
Next week we have a Pairs Combined Competition, any guest wishing to play, subject to handicap, contact pegohandicapsec@gmail.com.
