A chilly start at La Sella, only a few hardy members were on the course in front of us, long trousers were the order of the day but a few of the tougher players wore shorts in anticipation of the expected warmer weather and they were proven exactly right.
The golf course front nine has suffered greatly from the weather and at this time of the year it gets little chance to dry out. On top of that the necessary maintenance of scarifying the fairways had been carried out producing a quite unpleasant surface to play off.
A smaller than expected field meant that we would only be playing one division with prizes one to four and in first position with 31 points was Mark Gaines, followed by Chris Hoare scoring 29, Peter Gibson was third with 28 and fourth place went to Arthur Sullivan with 26, I am not sure why the scores were so low unless the state of the course or the early chill had some effect on the players but it resulted in the CBA being -2.
The nearest the pin prizes were won by Arthur Sullivan on the fifth and one of our guests, Bill Diamond, on the fifteenth, unsurprisingly there were no “twos”.
Our final game of 2018 is the Turkey Trot to be held at Oliva Nova on the 19th December, the first tee is at 10.32 so you need to be there for 09.45. We will be playing with three clubs and a putter and don’t forget there is a prize for the best Christmas hat.
Following the game we will going to the “Chicken Shack” for lunch in the usual way, if you and your partner wish to attend the lunch please let Wendy know so that she can book the numbers. Guests are always welcome with a current handicap certificate. To enter contact Michael on 639242896 or E mail him and the vice-captain.
