The Society played its first game of the year on Wednesday 5th. January, an Individual Stableford Competition at Lo Romero.
Twenty four members and 2 guests teed it up, but one member had enough after 9 holes, in the light of the very difficult playing conditions. Even that is something of an understatement as the wind blew ferociously throughout the day ! On the more exposed greens, putting proved very difficult.
Additionally most greens were quick, adding significantly to the challenges. In truth, the course should probably have been ‘closed ‘ as the possibility of injury from wind affected wayward shots was very real.
Following the game we returned to the Lo Crispin Tavern, where those who managed the very difficult conditions better than others, received their prizes and those who wanted it were supplied with Tapas, by the friendly staff.
Gold Division
1st Place – Steve Price 23 pts. off 20, 2nd Place – Richard Brady 21 pts off 20 ( on count back), 3rd. Place – Bill Croft 21 pts. off 19
Silver Division
1st Place – Paul Flanaghan 30 pts off 33, 2nd Place – Sue Smith 24 pts. off 35, 3rd Place – Jamie Ellis 22 pts. off 33
- T. P. on Par 3s
Hole 5 – Richard Brady, Hole 7 – Wayne Hartley, Hole 12 – Mark Baker, Hole 15 – Nobody managed to reach or stay on the green ! (Not surprising really in view of its 200 yds. length and the very strong wind against)
The 2s pot will be rolled over to our next game at Roda on 19th. January, which will also be an individual stableford, as nobody scored a 2.
Finally, the Free Game Draw was won by a new member, Mark Baker.
