Montgo Golf Societies stableford competition ended with impeccable timing as the last of this weeks´ players reached the 19th hole just as the first spots of rain started to fall. Their sponsor for this week was Richard Fox who, unlike his brother last week, remembered to bring his prizes to the clubhouse.
We have to applaud the groundsmen at Oliva Nova for the fabulous condition of the course. The greens are superb and running well, and walking on the fairways feels like walking on carpet. We are extremely lucky to belong to the best kept course of the area.
Making the best use of the course this week was Geoff Wilcock taking first place with 39 points. Second place went to Francien Knoops with 36 points, beating Arthur Burrows on countback. Francien´s partner, Gerian Van Ooijen, came 4th with 35 points so theirs was a happy household this weekend.
Three NTPs went to our Captain Denise Cooper who got to just 54cms of the hole on the 3rd. Tom Atkinson was at 1.85m on the 16th and Stella Fox put her 2nd shot on the 5th to just 3.24m of the hole. Both Denise and Stella got their putts to take home a coveted Montgo ball. Two other coveted balls went to Celia Cronin and Geoff Wilcock.
Lastly we are launching an informal competition asking members to submit photos they may have of Oliva Nova golf course. This is to go on the opening page of our website which is undergoing a small update. Please send entries to Denise Cooper via the website. The committee will then select a shortlist and perhaps we´ll have a vote for the winner. There may even be a small prize for the winner.
Next week´s competition is the Baxter Lamont Trophy sponsored by John and Lynne Lamont.
