On Friday 5th August, Montgo played a Blue Tee Stableford competition at Oliva Nova, where conditions were steaming hot but otherwise perfect for golf. In this competition, sponsored by Simon Fox, all players – men and ladies – play from the blue tees, which on the course lie in between the mens’ yellow tees and the ladies’ red tees. So easier for the men but harder for the ladies: except that the men have their handicap allowance reduced and the ladies get theirs increased!
Lo and behold, the ladies came out on top with Stella Fox 1st with 38 points playing off 25 shots and Sally Cottrell 2nd with 34 off 13. The best man – John Day – managed a meagre 30 off his 14 shots, followed by Mick Connolly with 27 off 12, on countback from Keith Cottrell with the same score. Don’t ask about the other men! Well done ladies, room for improvement men!
There were four nearest the pin prizes on offer, though a little uncertainty about on which holes. The computer was blamed but unable to defend itself. There was no disputing the winners however with Sally Cottrell picking up the goodies on holes 3 and 16, Stella Fox on the 5th and newly elected member Lee Fineman on the 14th.
Alongside the individual competition Pete Turner and Simon Fox played their quarter final singles matchplay, with Pete emerging as a convincing 7&5 winner. In the semi’s he is due to meet the winner between Captain George and Sally Cottrell.
Next week we will be playing a Medal competition sponsored by Mick Connolly.
