The Stableford competition on Tuesday, 8th May was for the Ray Baptiste trophy, donated in his memory by his wife. Ray was the former owner of Greenlands Golf Course and one of the founder members of what was to become El Plantio 2 Golf Society. Very much to the fore in this competition were new members Barry Walthall and Alistair Douglas.
Barry went away with 3 prizes – 2 for his second place and one for nearest the pin and was proud of the fact that he did not fail to score on any hole while Alistair won the competition on Count Back by virtue of a superb back nine of 22 points. John’s 36 points would have been good enough to win the trophy (for the third time) on most occasions.
Nearest the pins – Hole 2, Barry Walthall and Hole 8, John Wilby (nearly hole-in-one). Third Place, Handicap 6, John O’Brien – 36 points. Second Place, Handicap 23, Barry Walthall, – 38 points. First Place, Handicap 14, Alistair Douglas – 38 points on C/B.
If anyone would like to join our Society, we play at El Plantio Golf Club every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. We use both courses – the Par 3 nine hole course and the main 18 hole course, so we cater for all abilities. The membership rates are very competitive, so call for more details. Anyone who wishes to play in the Society as a guest or join as a new member, contact Ian Henderson on 966 716 616 or 636 116 230
