With 86 points I felt that I, Paul Brown, Benedicte Kruse and ‘Albert’ had done more than enough to win Monday’s 1-2-3 Waltzer. However at the 11th hour it was Terry Field, Nigel Price, Joyce McClusky and Mike Mahony who stole the show with 89.
Wednesday and it was a Major Trophy ‘President’s Day’ individual Stableford. Nearest the pins went to Ken Robertson (6th) Ron Luffman (10th) and Terry Field (14th). The worst two scores on the day was a family affair with Yvonne Phipps managing 26 points in the ladies section and husband Ron just pipping her with 25. Our winner this year with a very creditable 41 points was Marleen Billen. Second on countback from Reg Akehurst was Ian Moir with 39 points. As the only guest, we welcomed back John Collins who unsurprisingly won a couple of bottles of vino for the best guest score.
Friday saw our two underdogs reaching the final of this year’s Singles Match Play knockout with Mark Western overcoming Terry Field 3&2 and Paul Brown sending Lindsay Forbes packing with a 4&2 victory.
It was a ‘Bowmaker’ for everyone else which basically means the best three scores from four to count. With 58 points out and 57 points back John Dobson, Joyce McClusky, Reg Akehurst and ‘Albert’ were in pole position. However last in with 57 out and 58 back, and so winning on countback, it was Ken & Liz Robertson together with Marleen Billen and ……….me!
All in all a great and enjoyable week’s golfing and let’s hope for long it will continue.
