On November 2nd (yeah I know…November already!) Montgo played it´s annual Quaich Pairs Trophy competition. This tricky little medal game was sponsored by Liz and Barry Butler who have returned from Blighty, and seemingly brought with them some lovely, UK style drizzle. All morning our parasols served as paraguas as we trudged diligently onwards through the rain. Occasional hints of a brightening sky kept us going as some of us contemplated the thought that, if this hadn´t been a pairs game we may just have stayed in bed. Happily though we did finish under almost blue skies.
Despite the less than perfect weather some great scores were recorded. The best of which came as a surprise to the two gentleman concerned, as they had declared themselves almost unfit to play, being injured, or misaligned with the stars or some such nonsense. Despite these tribulations John Feek and Dennis Coe managed an excellent net 65 points. So not as incapable as they thought.
In second place John and Susie Snelling had net 67, Alan Skinner and Shaun O´Gorman had 67, while Penny Barden and Dave Fotheringham came fourth with 68. The ladies NTP on the 16th went to Sally Burrows with 4.9m. For the gents on the 16th Colin Foster hit to just 1.28m of the pin and sunk the putt to collect a coveted Montgo ball. And NTP in 2 on the 18th went to John Snelling with 3.58m. Captain Denise Cooper also collected a coveted Montgo ball.
In other news on Wednesday Richard Fox and Denise Cooper played against Geoff Willcock and John Day in the pairs final. Richard and Denise won 5/4, so congratulations to them.
Next weeks competition is a stableford sponsored by Shaun O´Gorman.
