On Friday 26th October Montgo GS played a stableford competition sponsored by Sally and Arthur Burrows.  Finally we got to play the full course at Oliva Nov as all greens were back in operation.  The course is constantly improving although currently the fairways remain quite fluffy as the grass is allowed to recover.

Players wrapped up against the chill approach of winter with temperatures below 20 degrees at start of play.  However golf bags grew fatter and players thinner as layers of clothing slowly switched to being carried rather than worn as the sun´s rays warmed the day.  The improved course and cooler weather led to some fine performances and excellent scores.

The scores were much higher than the temperatures with our winner clocking up an amazing 43 points.  That´ll be another cut for our ever improving Gordon Gleeson.  A warm welcome back to Feli Baybut who, despite protestations of not having played much, managed 41 points.  Roy Jones also had 41 points but lost out on countback, while Sue Burman came in fourth with 36 points.

Feli and Brian Baybut both did well, collecting three NTPs between them.  Feli had NTP on the 3rd and 16th, while Brian took NTP in2 on the 5th.  So that’s their wine cellar restocked for winter.  The remaining NTPs went to Dennis Coe on the 3rd and Celia Cronin in 2 on the 5th. Simon Fox was closest for the gents on the 16th.  Just one coveted Montgo ball was awarded this week and that went to Dennis Coe.

Sadly Terry Moore had to concede his semi-final against Sally Cottrell due to illness, I´m sure we all wish him better soon.  Sally had an extra surprise that day as she finally got a hole in one on the third, so congratulations to her.

In other news the Hannah Marsden Trophy has been rescheduled for the 23rd November, replacing the Texas scramble.

Finally I would like to welcome Peter Gardiner into the non-synchronised golf trolley swimming team as his bag received an unwanted drenching.  Let`s hope it doesn´t work out as costly for him as it did for our other contenders.

Next weeks competition is the Montgo Quaich sponsored by Barry and Liz Butler.
