The Celts Club de Golf, July championship report.

Yesterday we celebrated our monthly prize giving and championship day. Summer is here, yipee. The course is in superb condition with receptive fast greens, presenting us mortals with a real test of nerves.

Well done Miguel and the green keeping staff. With Camillus away at a family function, he left us in the good hands of Terry, Philip and Alan, well done yet again. Alan had a little mishap, one might say, regarding playing his ball from a penalty area. Ariel I believe removes all stubborn stains. Thank you to Jean and Cristina for their assistance in organising the results on the day. We also had freshly prepared Jamon de Serano and Tomate rolls waiting for us after 9 holes, they were delicious, well done to Arancha in the bar and the kitchen staff.

I was talking with Miguel and he is happy that we are removing some of the invading grasses on the greens, it helps with the maintenance. If you happen to be in a bunker, could you rake around the general area also to help leave the bunkers in pristine condition. Dave Stockton our vice captain stood in for George Thomas our captain to present the prizes on the day. It was to become a very tense day for Dave, later on.

Second overall with 39 Denis McCormack, and the winner with 40 fantastic points on the day Richie Rogers points.

We also had the final round of the Club Championship tournament, with the leading eight players all participating. Nerves got to one or two and they did not perform to their usual high standards. It all boiled down to a two horse race between Dave Stockton and Gordon Montgomery.

We had an eventful hour watching the changing leaderboard via the Golf Directo app. For most of the day Gordon had been holding his place in the top 15, which would have been enough for him to claim the title.

Faith had it differently and with the last fourballs coming ever closer to the clubhouse, Dave had the broadest smile as results favoured him. We had a new Club Champion, Dave Stockton.
