The Celts Club de Golf, July championship report.
The Celts Club de Golf, July championship report.

What a fantastic turnout for our July championship.  We had 85 players all geared and ready for the off with a 9am shot gun start. Again the competitions committee of Camillus, Philip and Terry were well prepared and players simply had to turn up, follow the instructions and walk to their allocated tee.

Jean in the pro-shop as ever generated our results efficiently and in a very timely manner. Enhorabuena a Vanessa and Mari Jose who coped admirably, providing all our members with snacks and  chilled refreshments, muchos gracias.  After the recent hollow tining the greens are improving daily, congratulations Miguel and your team on your dedication and professionalism.

If the condition of the course can be related to scores returned, then with 25 players equally or bettering par on a very difficult day demonstrates how well the course was presented for our tournament.

Prizes awarded on the day were as follows, nearest the pins, Pat Coyne, Pavla Serakova, Alan Ewing, Jim Hayes and Peter Dunne. Category III, what a performance from the higher handicapped group, returning the overall winner and runner-up on the day.

1st in Cat III, Rose Walker 38, 2nd Michael Sephton 38 and 3rd Logan Nayager 38. Cat II, 1st Peter Dunne 38, 2nd Theo Boelhouwer 38 and 3rd Terry Lewis 38. Cat I, 1st John O’Brien 39, 2nd Garteh Conroy 39 and 3rd Terry Fitzgerald 39. On the day there were several players with 38 not in the prizes. Best gross on the day  Alan Ewing 34. Second overall went to the very in form Savi Nayager with 42.

Our “surprised” winner on the day was  David Stockton who returned the fabulous score of 44 points.  Congratulations To all our winners and to all those who competed on the day. It was fantastic to see so many at the presentation and the vast majority in our Club polo. We have our Charity Day on the 29th of July, this day is confined to members only, with a 10 euro entry fee, this includes lunch and a snack plus a donation to charity.

We have had an unprecedented demand for membership over the past couple of months. As a result we have had to close membership temporarily.  However we have opened a waiting list for those who wish to apply and pay the refundable application fee, (refundable if a candidate cannot get a place at our renewal date).
