Friday the 23rd March saw a very windy start to Montgo Golf Society’s stableford competition sponsored by David Fotheringham. The combination of a strong wind with smooth running greens made putting particularly tricky. Thankfully the weather calmed considerably as the day went on but for most of us the damage had already been done.
As with recent weeks the top scores hovered on or below par. Our sponsor decided on a double first prize with one each for the gents and ladies. Susie Snelling took the glory for the girls with 36 points, she also had the honour of being the only player of the day to hit par. Our winning gentleman with 34 points, Shaun O´Gorman, was allowed to retain his victory and take home the prize.
Unlike a certain previous week where missing cards meant he had to give back his trophy. Continuing with his recent good form Patrick Lynch takes second place with 31 points. Our Vice Captain John Snelling came third with 30 points and Ross Fletcher crept ahead of George Braddick on countback with 29 points. Thinking he was going home empty handed George was very surprised to discover Dave had brought a prize for 5th place.
The two NTP prizes were awarded to Liz Grin on the 3rd and Barry Butler on the 16th. Liz was particularly pleased as she did not expect to keep her name on the card being over 17 metres from the pin.
Finally two coveted Montgo balls went to vice John Snelling and Alan Skinner.
Next week´s competition is a Magic 3 format sponsored by Celia Cronin.
