Twenty-six members were joined by guests from the Celts, whose home course La Serena is and who played as a nod to recently departed good friend to both societies, Shay Cunningham.
Always a test due to its 16 holes with water, those setting up the course were kind enough to put tee boxes well forward for the men on most holes. This, along with a course in good condition, was one of the main reasons why some superb scores were posted. Phil de Lacy was the stand out, with 45 points, followed by Mick cook with 42 and a gross par round of 72.
Mention should also go to Kyree Skarsmoen, Steve Higgins, Chris Hamblett and Mike Jordan who all beat their handicaps. At prize giving a special football card was undertaken, and will be continued next week, to raise funds for Shay’s wife’s chosen cancer charity.
The day’s stableford competition results, by category and in reverse order, were the following:
Bronze Category: 3rd Mike Jordan (37), 2nd Chris Hamblett (38), and 1st Kyree Skarsmoen with 40 points.
Silver Category: 3rd Theo Boelhouwer (35 on CB), 2nd Bjorn Pettersson (36), and 1st Phil de Lacy with 45 points.
Gold Category: 3rd Gerald Harwood (34), 2nd Steve Higgins (38), and 1st Mick Cook with 42 points.
Nearest the pins on the par 3’s (open to all) went to John Osborne (hole 3), Robin Eastman (9), Ken McPherson (15) and Mick Cook (17).
The Abacus was won by Ralph Tilbrook.
Our thanks go to the staff at La Serena for their contribution to an enjoyable day.
