Wednesday 28th November Alicante
A great turn out for the Paul Kelleway Plate, played this year at Alicante as last week the game at Oliva Nova was disrupted by the weather. The golf course was in superb condition considering the recent rain, it was well manicured and tidy, a pleasure to play on. We were joined by three prospective new members, Bill Diamond, Linda and Dennis Coe who were most welcome.
For our major competitions we have one division with prizes down to sixth place and occupying sixth spot was Michael Morley with 33 points and he was feeling a lot better once he got his prize, in fifth place was Steve Smith with 34, third and fourth places were decided on count-back by the last three holes and Chris Williamson just pipped Sylvia Evans taking third place, second place went to David French with 37 points but our trophy winner with 38 was the inform Rosemary Edwards, taking yet another cut in her dwindling handicap.
The nearest the pin prizes went to Steve Smith on hole 3 and Steve Cliffe on hole 12, there were two knock out games played today, the final of the singles saw Mark Gaines go head to head with Steve Cliffe and despite a dodgy start by Steve he came out on top winning by 2 and 1, well done champ. There was a semi-final between Malcolm Monti with Michael Taylor against Fred Cooley with Arthur Sullivan in the doubles and Malcolm and Michael won 1 up.
Next week, Wednesday the 14th December, the Warblers are at Alenda it is a 10.00 first tee so you need to be there for 09.15. Guests are always welcome with a current handicap certificate. To enter contact Michael on 639242896 or E mail him and the vice-captain.
