On Friday 15th Montgo Golf Society and Pego Golf Society finally went head to head in their eagerly anticipated annual Society Challenge Match. The day was again, kindly sponsored by Oliva Nova with free golf for all and some lovely tapas laid on at the halfway stage. A big thank you goes to Rafa Pedrol and the team at Oliva for their continued support of this excellent competition.
Wine was supplied by Vinoliva and I have it on good authority by those who partook of this generosity, that the wine was quite splendid. Oliva Nova also supplied green fees for the winners and runners up.
At 9.00am 80 golfers commenced play having finally got their heads around the Ryder cup format. We played 6 holes of 4 ball better ball, 6 of pairs Texas scramble and 2 singles matches over the remaining six holes. With 4 points available for each game there was ample opportunity for moments of glory.
A great day was had by all in the excellent conditions both weather wise and the course itself. As always the result was extremely close with just 3 points between us. I am pleased to announce that Montgo took the glory this year bringing the tally to 3 matches each since the competitions inauguration. So next year promises to be even more competitive.
There were NTPs available on all par 3s with yet more wine provided by the societies. Not to gloat but there was a 3:1 split to Montgo for the prize winners. John Day was closest on the 3rd, Paul Sankey was one of the few to hit the 6th green, and stay on it. Our youngest player Holli Snelling took the glory on the 11th and finally Heiko Schram was the most accurate on the 16th.
So thank you to all those who took part and especially to those whose hard work behind the scenes makes the day possible.
