‘Mike Probert talks Golf – The Thieves Are Back !!!

The Thieves Are Back !!!

After the golf courses re-opened on the 11^th May 2020 following the first lock down local golfers were faced by a number of thefts of wallets, money and credit cards from buggies parked on buggy paths but close to roads and trees where the thieves lay in wait while golfers putted out on greens out of sight of their activities.

Initially these events started at Villamartin but quickly spread to Lo Romero and then La Marquesa using the same technique each time BUT the gang were arrested in the Alicante area with €40k proceeds of crime.

Sad to say but it looks like they are back!!

A client of mine and his golfing partners were robbed of wallets, money and credit cards on the 15^th tee at Alenda where their buggies were parked while they putted out on the 14^th green.

Once informed I issued a warning via my Costa Blanca Green Fee Services facebook page to all local golfers to be aware of these robbers activities and was astounded by the response.

It would appear that Alenda, Altorreal, Altea Hills (Don Cayo), El Valle and La Serena have all been targeted by these robbers in the last week.

The message for all golfers playing in the Costa Blanca and Murcian regions should be very careful with their valuables and if carrying these in the golf bag on a buggy, park the buggy in sight at all times and avoid parking the buggy near bushes and trees or next to fences near to public roads and lanes.

The best thing we can all do is to reduce the available easy pickings while the police start to take the issue more seriously so they can provide a physical and visible deterrent to the thieves.
