So what does the future hold for our golf Industry?

None of us need reminding how difficult life has been for everyone, including golf courses since the first lockdown on the 15^th March 2020.

Most golf course relied heavily on local golf society golfers and members during this period of time when the tourist golfers were prevented from playing golf here in Spain due to lockdowns or travel restrictions.

As these travel restriction rules have been eased over the late summer month’s we have seen a large influx of tourist golfers filling the golf courses and giving some hope for a more normal future for the golf industry in this part of Spain.

September and October have been particularly busy and for anyone looking for a game of golf it has become a case of finding a course that has any tee time availability rather that the golfer specifying where they want to play.

Looking longer terms what does the future hold for our golf industry and as golfers what can we expect from the golf courses?

For sure we have seen a mini revival over the last few month’s but will this be sustainable into next year?

While the last few months have been a significant improvement on the last 18 months the overall level of golfers has still been down on pre-pandemic years.

Unfortunately since the start of the pandemic the golf course have all been hit with huge and unexpected costs including utility bills such as fuel, water and electricity and unfortunately have been forced to significantly increase their green fees prices to reflect this.

Many clients have noted these increases and commented in a negative fashion but still we have seen a positive increase in tourist golfers recently.

The question is whether these golfers will stay loyal to the golf courses on the Costa Blanca and Murcia next year or move further south to the Costa Del Sol, Portugal, Morocco or Turkey?

The early signs are positive as golfers appear to be enquiring and booking golf already for Spring 2022 and I guess early in the New Year we will know for sure.

What is certain is that faced with competition the local golf courses must offer the golfing tourist a good golfing experience in terms of both the condition and quality of the course and the time taken to play rounds of golf.

I am sure that the local golf courses are up to the task but if they aren’t there are many other golfing destinations just waiting to take golfers money.
