When you think of luck Vegas and the Irish come to mind and while Rory McIlroy claimed he needed a little bit of it on the way to his 20th TOUR win in reality it was a dominant display at The Summit Club.

The 32-year-old from Northern Ireland put the frustration from the Ryder Cup behind him to claim THE CJ CUP @ SUMMIT. “It was huge. I was really disappointed with how I played (at the Ryder Cup). I get more emotional thinking about that than even thinking about this,” McIlroy said.

“There was a lot of reflection the last couple of weeks. But this is what I need to do. I need to play golf, I need to simplify it, I need to just be me.” And this McIlroy was unmatched. He managed only one bogey over the final three rounds while leading the field in Strokes Gained: Putting.

McIlroy began the day two-shots behind Rickie Fowler who was looking to win for the first time since the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open yet came up short. Collin Morikawa threatened with a final round 62, but an eagle on the 14th hole saw McIlroy take control and become just the 39th player to reach 20 wins. “It’s quite an achievement,” said McIlroy when asked about being part way to a lifetime exemption.

“I still need a couple more years on TOUR to get that, but at least I’ve got the wins.” Even in Vegas most people would bet on that happening.
