The standard bearer was exhausted and had to be replaced. The golf carts ferrying around the two final competitors were losing their juice. That’s what happens when an eight-hole playoff takes place.
In the end, Harris English defeated Kramer Hickok with a 16-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole at the Travelers Championship, which not only provided relief for man and machine, but also made history as it tied for the second-longest sudden-death playoff in PGA TOUR history.
“This was awesome,” English said. “The fans were keeping us in it. Hats off to Kramer. We were making 7- and 8-footers. What a competitor.”
English, 31, became the fifth multiple winner on TOUR this season, having previously won the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January.
The other multiple winners are Bryson DeChambeau, Stewart Cink, Jason Kokrak and Patrick Cantlay.
It’s also the fourth TOUR victory for the former University of Georgia Bulldog. English earned 500 FedExCup points and moved up 11 spots to No. 2 in the standings.
