It will be a weekend to remember for Jim Herman. Not only because he won the Wyndham Championship, but because of how he won.
Herman was sizzling on Saturday and Sunday and shot 61-63 in the final two rounds at Sedgefield Country Club to clip Billy Horschel by one shot. And in case there wasn’t enough pressure on him, Herman also was on the outside looking in when it came to advancing to the FedExCup Playoffs.
When it was all said and done, Herman moved up 138 spots, from No. 192 to No. 54, and is bound for the Playoffs. “Obviously ecstatic,” said Herman, who earned his third PGA TOUR win. “I’m very emotional. It’s going to be tough to put into words what this means. I was pretty down after last week at (the PGA Championship) and played terrible. … I came here with no expectations.”
Herman, 42, also is the first TOUR winner in his 40s since Tiger Woods won the ZOZO Championship last October.
