With a late 10.50 1st tee we managed a lie-in. However, the sun was out early without a cloud in the sky to hide behind. As a result our cool bags with fluids were almost as heavy as our golf bags this Thursday.
Temperatures were well into the mid 30s by the time we were striking our 1st balls on the golf range. The greens at Las Colinas were fast but true. Everything about the course was testament as to why it’s regarded as one of the best golf courses in Spain.
Not a single scorecard recorded a score of par or better! The heat and inability to concentrate fully were the most popular reasons voiced by players with everyone commenting on how well the course was presented albeit with many yellow tees much further back than usual.
Due to the later than usual tee time, the presentation took place in a shaded area outside the clubhouse. Captain Alan Craig reminded players that the Crazy Golf competition evening was the next event on Tuesday 8th July at the Sports Complex and that there were still places available for players, WAGs and guests, so please pre-book via lamarinagolfsociety@gmail.com.
Alan reminded players that our next game is on July 10th at Lo Romero which will be the 1st of the 4 games that go towards the Summer Cup Competition. This year, the result will be decided by players’ best 2 scorecards over the 4 games. Alan presented Vic Smith and Jeff Wisniewski with their €20 10-game vouchers.
Alan continued with the announcement of winners as follows:
- Nearest the pin on hole 5: No One
- Nearest the pin on hole 7: Gordon McClagan
- Nearest the pin on hole 10: Sarah McCabe
- Nearest the pin on hole 14: Dave Freeman
Sarah McCabe secured the only 2 of the day from her nearest the pin tee shot on the 10th.
The results of today’s Stableford competition were as follows:
Gordon McClagan in third place with 33 points (handicap 10),
Dave Freeman in second place, again with 33 points (handicap 29) beating Gordon with a better back 9,
The winner of the Founder’s Trophy with a score of 34 points (handicap 34) was Susan Lyall.
Vice Captain Sue Lyall closed the proceedings by having 3 raffle tickets drawn for €20 off next game vouchers – the lucky recipients being Roye Rampul, Alan Craig and Iain Lyall.
Congratulations to all the winners.
