His mammoth long drives garnered most of the attention during the week. But it was Bryson DeChambeau’s clutch putting down the stretch Sunday at Bay Hill that earned him the trophy and the cherished red alpaca cardigan at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.

“It’s been quite a battle this whole entire time,” an emotional DeChambeau said. “I don’t even know what to say, to win at Mr. Palmer’s event. It’s going to make me cry.”

DeChambeau faced a knee-knocking 5-footer to win on the 72nd hole, and he drained it before clutching both fists in celebration.

His 1-under 71 was one shot better than Lee Westwood for the week, and DeChambeau was only one of three players to break par on a difficult Sunday.

It was DeChambeau’s eighth PGA TOUR victory and he picked up 550 FedExCup points due to the elevated-event status and jumped to the No. 1 spot in the FedExCup standings.
