Cameron Champ was battling dehydration during Sunday’s final round at the 3M Open. But some back-nine hydration led to elation as he hoisted the trophy at TPC Twin Cities for his third PGA TOUR win.

“I got dehydrated. My body kind of started getting, I don’t know, not weak, but I could just feel it, light-headed,” Champ said. “The Gatorade definitely helped on 16 and gave me the extra push.” Despite some drama on the par-5 18th hole, Champ managed to stick his approach and escape with par to secure a two-shot victory over Louis Oosthuizen, Jhonattan Vegas and Charl Schwartzel.

Champ’s other two TOUR wins came at the 2020 Safeway Open and the 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship. The 26-year-old Californian started the week at No. 142nd in the FedExCup standings but he skyrocketed to No. 49.

MIC CHECK

“I kind of made it a little interesting there at the end.” – Cameron Champ, who hit his drive way left on the par-5 18th hole on Sunday before managing to lay up twice, hitting an incredible approach and making a short putt for a two-shot win at the 3M Open.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN

The Tokyo Olympics are underway after a one-year delay, with the golf competition making its second consecutive appearance in the Games after a 112-year absence before its return in 2016.

The American contingent includes this year’s PLAYERS champion Justin Thomas, The Open champion Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele.

Patrick Reed was added to the team after Bryson DeChambeau tested positive for COVID-19, making Reed the only American to play in both the 2016 (T11) and 2021 Games.

Reigning Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama will try to pair a gold medal with his Green Jacket, having won the 2010 Asia-Pacific Amateur on Kasumigaseki’s West Course to earn his first Masters invitation.

Two-time FedExCup champion Rory Mcilroy represents Ireland alongside 2019 Open Championship winner Shane Lowry while Australia is represented by the same pair that teamed up to win this year’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith. Recently redesigned by Tom and Logan Fazio, Kasumigaseki Country Club (East Course) provides the backdrop for this year’s competition.
