This week Montgo Golf Society played a stableford competition for the Baxter Lamont Trophy sponsored by John Lamont in honour of his first antipodean grandchild. Although they could not play it was great to see Lynne and John Lamont at the clubhouse after the game.
Play commenced under a grey, cloudy sky despite it being, officially, the second day of summer. The chilly temperature seemed to dictate that jumpers and long trousers were the order of the day. However the few brave souls who had their legs on show were vindicated as the sun slowly wore away the clouds enabling a bright, warm finish to the game.
Brightest finisher of the day, with his first major trophy win of the year, Shaun O´Gorman took first place with 39 points. And although the day was calm and the course played well, he was our only player who managed to come in under par thereby earning a 0.4 cut to his handicap.
Second and third places were decided on countback, with Gordon Gleeson continuing his current good form taking 2nd, and Denise Cooper in 3rd, both on 35 points. Both players were double winners today as Denise also took NTP on the third, rather unexpectedly as she was over 13mtrs from the pin.
And Gordon Gleeson put his 2nd shot on the 18th just 3.16 m form the pin earning him his second prize of the day. NTP for the 16th required a card draw for which Linda Coe was the happy recipient. John Hall took NTP in 2 on the 5th with a very impressive 2.60m. The only two of the day went to Dennis Coe.
Next week´s competition is a pairs betterball sponsored by Linda and Dennis Coe.
