Daily Golf Federation Licence – Part II

In last week’s golf article I highlighted the proposed change in how the purchase of the daily golf federation licence (including liability insurance was to be changed under a circular (18/2022) issued by in the Spanish golf Federation which in brief states that the daily licence only applied to tourist golfers and that any golfer with an NIE or TIE numbers (Spanish home owners or residents) must have adequate liability insurance which was only available by joining the Spanish Golf Federation.

I stated that this was probably creating more questions than answers as the Spanish Golf Federation appear to have made this decision without engaging with the golfing public at large and boy was I right.

Below are just a few of the questions and comments made by some of our readers:

  1. This is just someone else traying to take a slice of the golfing pie.
  2. What is the cost to join the Spanish Golf Federation?
  3. How do you join the Spanish Golf federation if not a member of a club?
  4. Are private golf insurances acceptable?
  5. Who will monitor the situation?
  6. Will golf courses stop you playing if in possession of an NIE or TIE but not a member of the Spanish Golf Federation?

While I can answer most of these questions and comments it is not my position to do so the Spanish Golf Federation and the golf courses need to have a co-ordinated approach to implementing the instruction and to inform the wider golfing public.

Already there are cracks appearing in this process and by example:

Two week’s ago our golf society played a course in Murcia and they requested the €3 payment for the daily licence but yesterday at another course in Murcia they refused to take the fee (saying they were now breaking the law by doing so) which saved the players €3 but left them without any personal liability insurance.

So I ask you a question, the next time you stand on the first tee of a golf course here in Spain do you have personal liability insurance for damage or injury to property or persons and what happens if you do have a problem?

I am sure that this issue has some way to run and will attempt to keep our readers updated as things develop and if these proposals are legalised and implemented by our local golf courses.

We at THE LEADER are committed to providing to our golfing readers affordable golf without the need to join a club or apply for a card but simply contact the number below to have instant access to discounted golf prices, many of which are exclusive to us:
