Villamartin Golf Course Overview
18 hole golf course in Orihuela-Costa ( Costa Blanca South)
A par 72 measuring 6,132 metres from the white tees; it was designed by Paul Puttman and 1972. It is one of the most established courses on the Costa Blanca and has hosted several PGA tour competitions.
A mixture of hills, valleys, mature trees and vegetation, the front nine holes take in the highest point of the course offering some spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Villamartin hosted the 1994 Mediterranean Open which was won by Jose Maria Olazabal after an exciting play-off with Paul McGinley. Villamartin Golf Club has an exciting design and many challenges. The course is par 72 and the length is 6132 meters from the white tees, 6037 from yellow, and 5259 from red. (Hole 17 counts as a signature hole and is a par 3 with more than 200 m from the back tee. A deep ravine is collecting many balls, and an extremely undulated green will be a challenge to most players). Hole 17 is the Par 3 signature hole with a demanding 200m carry off the back tee onto an extremely undulating green. The shot from the tee crosses a tree lined deep ravine that protects the hole and presents a challenge to most players.
The course is very diverse and unlike many other courses in this part of Spain, none of the holes are equal. One of the challenges is the many old pine and olive trees. Regardless of the challenges one can from several of the holes, enjoy the beautiful view over the Mediterranean Sea.
Villamartin golf course has a character that creates a desire to play it again and again. (There is presently an ongoing renovation of the existing Clubhouse and a new terrace, and a garage for bogeys is being built. The buildings follow the old style with ceramic tiles.)
