Clapton’s Golf Society Bonalba Golf & Spa

This month’s competition was held at Bonalba.  On the way to the course it was obvious we still had the cold morning wind. As we set out from the first tee it was a case of pull the collar up and get on with it, but as the day progressed the sun showed its face and we began to warm up.  The course was in excellent condition, the greens which varied slightly but in the main were quite fast which did catch some of the players out.

The scores showed this in as much as they were lower than normal.  Having collected all the cards and journeyed back to our new Clubhouse at Bar 10 in Quesada where an excellent buffet was provided by James and his staff.  All the cards having been scrutinized the overall winner being Kevin Williams, congratulations to him, results below.

Overall winner Kevin Williams 34 points, Gold Winner Duncan Williamson 30 points, Gold Runner Up Andy Trefry 29 points on c/b, Silver Winner Brian Simister 30 points, Silver Runner Up Terry Sharley 26 points

Front Nine Dave Nicholls 14 points on c/b, Back Nine Gary Townsend 14 points

Nearest the Pin: 4th Gary Strowger, 8th Duncan Williamson, 11th Andy Trefry, 14th Gary Strowger

Football Card James Crisp

The next match will be at Vista Bella on 15th February.  Anyone wishing to join the Society please contact Kevin Williams on kevsta01@gmail.com.

Claptons Golf Society – Bonalba Golf – 18th May 2018

Here we are for our first visit to Bonalba Golf this year.  Weather was fine and bright and the sun had already reared its head as we started off on a 10am tee.  Since we last came there have been improvements to the course which can only benefit all golfers.  The greens were in good condition and running fairly true but not always as true as everybody would like.

We had one unfortunate instance where one of our players hit a duck with his golf ball as it strayed off the shank from the tee killing the poor bird instantly.

We journeyed back to The Club in Quesada and our thanks for a splendid buffet to Ian and his team.

The cards having been sorted the results are below:

Overall Winner:     Kevin Williams 32 points

Gold Winner:         Andy Trefry 30 points, Gold Runner Up: Brent Hollings 29 points

Silver Winner:       John Dodds 31 points, Silver Runner Up:  Ken Pugh 24 points

Best Guest:           Gordon Chapman 25 points

Best Front Nine:   Rick Drake 12 points on c/b, Best Back Nine: Edie Scott 15 points on c/b,

Nearest the Pins: 4th Brent Hollings: 8th Dave Nicholls: 11th & 14th Gordon Chapman.

Twos: Gordon Chapman. Football Card: Gordon Chapman.

As you can see from the above our guest Gordon Chapman scooped all the prizes he could get so many congratulations.

Our next match is the 15th June at Font del Llop

Clapton’s Golf Society – Vistabella Golf – 20th April 2018

This month’s competition was held at the newly laid out Vistabella Golf.  The weather was warm and comfortable but the wind was blowing across the course.  This made playing that much more difficult, as it means the players have to aim off-course to compensate.

Everybody thought this was going to be a low scoring day, but as you can see from the results below there were some good scores all round.  As everybody finished and the cards were collected we all returned back to The Club in Quesada.

Cards and handicaps were checked and the results are below. The presentation was given at The Club Quesada and we would like to thank to Ian and his staff for an excellent buffet.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Overall Winner:  Dave Nicholls 36 points

Gold Winner:  Brent Hollings 32 points on c/b

Gold Runner Up: Andy Trefry 32 points

Silver Winner: John Dodds 32 points

Clapton’s Golf Society – Altoreal Golf 16th March 2018

Here we are at one of  the Society’s favourite courses.  With a 10.00 am tee-off 18 members set off from Quesada at 8.15 am giving everybody time on arrival for coffee and a chance to go on the range if they wished.  The course is in the midst of some changes so it was not in its usual immaculate condition but it was still a great day.

Clapton’s Golf Society Alicante Golf February 9th  2018

This month’s competition was held at Alicante Golf a week earlier than normal due to complications at the course.  Nevertheless the weather seemed to have given us a break with some sunshine in a chilly 11 degrees.  The course was in excellent condition and the greens were quick but due to the low temperatures still we are not seeing the high scores from the Gold division.

First tee was at 10.50 with 12 players and at the end of the day everybody journeyed back to the Club House at The Club in Quesada.  Although it was cold out of the sun everybody said they enjoyed their day.  Again for the second month in succession John Dodds managed to make the winner’s rostrum, congratulations.  There were some close contenders but nevertheless he kept his first place as you will see from the results below.

We had one humorous occasion when Kevin Williams played his ball onto the green, a duck picked it up and ran away with it.  The duck dropped it so a seagull decided to get into the act as well and he took it to the other side of the course.  It was declared a lost ball.

Our thanks to our hosts John and Carolyn and the staff at The Club for an excellent buffet once again.

Overall Winner:           John Dodds 34 points

Gold Winner:              Terry Sharley 33 points

Gold Runner Up:        Gary Strowger 29 points

Silver Winner:             Kevin Williams 24 points

Silver Runner Up:       Chris Byrne 22 points

Best Guest:                 Ron Hanson 25 points

Best Front Nine:         Andy Trefry 14 points

Best Back Nine:          Tony Stead 13 points

Most Potential:              Rick Drake

Nearest the Pins: Only two achieved: 3rd Terry Sharley and 15th Terry Sharley.  He also won the twos so it was a clean sweep on the day for Terry.

Clapton’s Golf Society at Font Del Llop 17th November 2017

Here we are once again at Font del Llop.  With a 10.20 tee and with the sun shining and a little bit of a chilly breeze we got off the first tee ten minutes late.  The course looked in excellent condition and was right for some good scores.

All the winners
All the winners

As the day went on the breeze dropped and we were left with a nice sunny day for some good golf.  As the players began to finish their rounds it was fairly obvious that our earlier thoughts would come to fruition.

The last four ball came in and we made our way back to our new Clubhouse at The Club in Quesada, where a grand buffet was supplied by our hosts.  The scores were then totted up, cards shuffled about for the winner to appear with 36 points.

Congratulations to Kevin Williams. Presentation followed and the results are below.  Our thanks to our hosts John and Carolyn and the staff at The Club which we hope will be a long and fruitful partnership.

Overall Winner:           Kevin Williams 36 points

Gold Winner:              Brent Hollings 35 points

Gold Runner Up:        Terry Sharley 34 points

Silver Winner:             Paul Burletson 33 points

Silver Runner Up:       John Dodds 25 points

Best Guest:                 Dave Roberts 23 points

Best Front Nine:         Tony Stead 15 points on c/b
