Plaza Golf Society at Vistabella 25.01.19

Onto Vistabella for our next event which proved to be a tough test as the winds got up and caused difficult ‘society golf’ conditions!

No more so than for Ricardo Nash who unfortunately propped up the field with 16pts …..better luck next time at Villamartin.

The 2’s pot was a rollover from La Finca and was won this time by 3 players, Warren Harris, Barry Mitchell and SMGS Captain Big Tony Smale each taking home 61 euros.

The nearest the pins were sponsored by The Society this event which saw winners Russell Bailey, John Morrison, Tony Smale, Phil De Lacy and Barry Mitchell each ‘hitting the mark’….well done Chaps.

We had 8 guests which is great and in 3rd place with 32pts off handicap 9 was John Morrison, 2nd saw Michael Leonard with 33 off 11  and in 1st place with an astonishing performance playing off plus 4 was visiting ‘Pro’ James Freeman scoring 38pts and we look forward to James joining us again anytime soon.

Onto our Silver category in 3rd place scoring 33 pts off handicap 15 was a subdued Barry Mitchell, 2nd Mike Greatorex on countback with the same 33 off 14 but with the best score of the whole event and also winning the best Lady player by a country mile was our very own Liz Sully amassing a huge 41 pts off  a handicap of 15 which is obviously going to be closely looked at by the handicap committee but even so a tremendous performance…well done Liz.

In Gold  Kevin Bird  came 3rd with 32 off 12, Phil De Lacy 2nd with 34 off 11 and winning with a creditable 34 pts off 10 was Gareth Davies.

Our next event will be at Villamartin 08.02.19 which is currently full but we are trying to obtain additional tee times so watch this space.

To view future events log onto our website and plan your golf.

Plaza Golf Society at Villamartin

On this very warm August day the TPGS returned to our favourite course the famous Villamartin.

We had 53 players on patrol today a great number once again. The course as usual was in fine condition and resulted in some great scores and some pretty woeful ones! Unusually Gordy avoided the last spot, this was claimed by Steve Barry with 18 measly points of his 28 hcap.

Best Lady was the very popular   Liz O’Sully with 34 pts. We had 13 guests today but the best by some margin was Graham Temple (no relation to wee Ronnie) who scored 40 pts of his very impressive hcap of 3.

NTPS were sponsored by The Ale House and the lucky recipients were Keith Crowley (the best player in the field off scratch), Paul Mooney, Wee Jimmy Gray, Paul McThelwell, and Christine Attwood.

There were 7 winners of the 2’s pot: Well Done resident Capitano Dickie Allen, Ronnie Temple, Graham Temple, Paul Mooney, Toby Davies, Paul McThelwell and Kev “stato” Adamson.

The Silver division proved to be a very tough school but lovely jubbly Liz Sully came 3rd with 34 pts, Neil Cheeseman 2nd on countback with 39pts to Alan Carter certainly a bit of handicap adjustment coming there way!

The Gold division was an equally tough arena With Captain Dickie McAllen coming in 3rd with a respectable 37 pts (big shout out to Janet Allen who is recovering nicely from a sudden illness, get well soon from us all  xxx ) Robert McDowell beat Dickie on countback also scoring 37 pts of his 7 hcap.

But by far (and perhaps the most surprising) winner was the jovial character Big Phil Sully with a wonderful 40pts some great scores there, the handicaps are being reviewed as we speak!

Next week we are orf to Roda, there are a few spaces left please book online at

Thank you all for your continued support and help in making this the best society on the Costas.

Glorious day at Vistabella for Plaza GS

On this beautifully warm spring day the TPGS ventured over to the newly renovated Vistabella which now has 18 holes.

The new holes proved to be a challenge for most of us particularly when you where being fed duff information  (thank you Mr Temple!) The greens where slicker than most, but the fairways needed a bit of a watering. The 2’s pot was won by the in form dodgy Declan Crowley, Callum Hitcham and John Aird. Callum also won three NTP’S, Dickie McAllen and big Ron Temple picking up the other two.

Ian Parkinson came last with a woeful 20 pts. Linda Ottway was by far the best lady with 31 pts. In the Silver division Barry “shouting man” Mitchell came 3rd with 34 pts Richie Maher 2nd with 35 but the winner was the popular Bill O’Gillies. The Gold division was won by young Callum Hitcham with an impressive 36pts of his 5 hcap, 2nd place was dodgy Dec with 35 pts and 3rd place was Tony McSmale with 34 pts.

Our next outing is on the 23rd match at La Torre. Please book your spot online at

Finally on a sad note our condolences go out to the family of our friend and resident DJ snoopy R.I.P fella.

The Plaza Golf Society – Las Ramblas 23.2.18

The Plaza Golf Society returned to Las Ramblas on this fine winter morning .

It’s not everyone’s favourite but no-one could criticise the condition of the course which was as usual excellent.

The greens where super fast and caught out a lot of players.  Particularly Gordy Brindley who came last with 10pts .

The 2’s pot was won by Nick McSpicer and Kev Adamson. NTP’S where kindly donated by honest John Williams and were won by Nick McSpicer x 3, Tom Cornwall  and Keith Parker. Best lady was Liz Sully  and her husband Phil won the scratch card which was ironic really when you see the state of his face after colliding with the pavement earlier in the week

Alan Carter won the Silver division, John Aird and Liz came 2nd and 3rd respectively.  Mike Thornton was 3rd with our iconic captain Simon Lee pipping him on countback to 2nd with 31 pts.

The winner by some margin with 36 pts was deadly Declan O’Cowley.  Our next game is at the newly renovated Vistabella on Friday 9th March and places are selling out quicker than the lovely sausage rolls in the Ale House!  So register pronto at

Team Spirit for The Plaza Golf Society

This weeks event took us to Las Ramblas for a Texas Scramble 4 person team event.

10 teams took part with each team being made up of 2 low and 2 higher handicap players, a format that suits the Las Ramblas course where you can be a little bit more aggressive in shot selection once a ‘safe’ ball is in play.

Team nearest the pins were up for grabs with Teams Phil, Declan, Colin and Darren all winning drink vouchers for their efforts…..hole 12 proved particularly difficult with NO players making the green!!!!!

On to the main contest the top 3 teams were only apart by point 4 of a shot with Team Colin coming 3rd with net 62.3.

2nd place went to Team Phil with net 62.2 and with a great net score of 61.9 was Team Warren made up of Waz, Big Ron, Lucky Lee and North East Nigel….well done to them sharing 100 euro first prize.

Our next 2 events are both at Villamartin Golf Course on 8th/15th December and are filling up fast so if you want to play log on and register at or visit our HQ at The Alehouse in the Plaza Square.
