ALFIE’S GOLF SOCIETY

28 members and guests from Alfie’s GS travelled the short distance to Villamartin GC for the August meeting of Alfies G.S on what turned out to be a very hot and humid day. The course was in very good condition and playing long with most of the yellow tee boxes back on the whites.

Our winner of the gold division was Ove Collin with 37 stableford points.

Second place went to Derek Fleet with 35 stableford points.

ALFIE’S GOLF SOCIETY PRESIDENTS DAY

President’s Day Las Ramblas  – Thursday 30th May 2019

31 members and guests from Alfie’s GS travelled on a lovely sunny day to Las Ramblas for our President’s Day outing.   The course was as you would expect in very good condition, following hollow tining.  Scoring was challenging as Las Ramblas is not an easy course, but as usual our members rose to the challenge.

Winner Gold Division – Our winner on the day, and picking up the President’s Day trophy, was Nick Lee with 39 points.

Runner Up Gold Division – Ian Ingledew, with 33 points.

Winner Silver Division – Rachel Lee with 37 points, well done Rachel.

Runner Up Silver Division – Wayne Stevenson, with 32 points.

ALFIE’S GOLF SOCIETY – Hacienda Riquelme –Thursday 25th of April 2019

 24 members and guests from Alfie’s GS played at Hacienda Riquelme. The course was in good condition, and the greens were excellent, however the wind decided to show up just to bring us back down to earth, along with thick pampas grass and plentiful bunkers, this was not going to be a high scoring day. In fact no one beat the course on the day!

Our winner of the day in the gold division was Steve Barlow with a score of 31 stableford points.

ALFIE’S GOLF SOCIETY – Alhama Signature -Thursday 28th March 2019

28 members from Alfie’s GS travelled by coach to Alhama Signature Golf Course to play for the prestigious Terry Owen Memorial Trophy. This was the furthest we as a society have travelled for one of our meetings, and we were not disappointed.

Arriving stress free with plenty of time to soak up the scenery and use the fantastic practice facilities, this may be the way forward for future events. The course was in excellent condition with deep bunkers, long par 3s, lakes to navigate around and fast undulating greens. This was a very enjoyable and great test of golf to be had by all, so thank you to the committee and especially Ian Ingledew for organising this day.

ALFIE’S GOLF SOCIETY Vistabella -Thursday 28th February 2019

There were originally 24 members from Alfie’s GS due to play at Vistabella, but due to illness and injury’s we had a few late cancellations. The course was in excellent condition, we also found the staff very understanding and helpful with our updated order of play and buggy allocation, so thank you all at Vistabella.  

With some of the tee boxes moved forward and perfect golfing weather, this was always going to be an enjoyable high scoring day of golf.

Our winner of the day in the gold division was Nick Lee with a great score of 42 stableford points.

Second place went to Ian Connell with a score of 36 points.

The winner of the silver division was Rachel Lee with a score of 40 stableford points.

Second place went to Wayne Stevenson with 34 points.

Alfie’s Golf Society Las Colinas

Thursday 31st January 2019

30 members and 2 guests from Alfie’s GS travelled to Las Colinas GC for the opening match of the 2019 season and the first round of the Eclectic Cup. This is always a popular venue for our members and guests and although the course was in good condition, we felt that it didn’t meet the usual high standards that we have come to expect at Las Colinas. 

With gusting winds, non receptive greens and difficult pin positions this was always going to be a tough day for all golfers.

Our winner of the day in the gold division was Ian Ingledew with a great score of 35 stableford points.

Second place went to Steve Barlow with a score of 32 points.

The Winner of the silver division was Peter Golder with a score of 31 stableford points. Second place went to George Petty with 30 points.

Alfies Golf Society Saurines de la Torre -Thursday 13th December 2018

21 members from Alfie’s GS travelled to Saurines de la Torre GC for the final event in the calendar for 2018 which would decide who would take the honours for the Championship Golfer of The Year.

The weather was cold and wet making the golf a real challenge. The course was in reasonable condition bearing in mind the rain we have had in the last few weeks. The presentation was held at The Street restaurant in the evening as this was also the Alfies Christmas Dinner and a good time was had by all. As the golfers came off the course the positions of the winners was changing all the time with the final stages deciding who came out on top.

Our winner of the day in the silver division was Jim Dempsey with a great score of 40 stableford points

Second place went to Wayne Stevenson with a score of 33 Stableford points.

The Winner of the gold division was Ian Ingledew our society Captain with a fantastic score of 40 stableford points. Second place went to Nick Lee who also had 40 points but lost out on count back.

Alfie’s Golf Society – Captains Day

Mar Menor -Thursday 25th October 2018

32 members and guests from Alfie’s GS travelled to Mar Menor GC for our Captains Day event at Mar Menor on the Thursday 25th October 2018. The turnout was great and our Captain Ian Ingledew had invited some friends to join in the fun with other members of the society.

 The course was in magnificent condition and all players enjoyed the day where the overall scoring was very high with 3 players scoring 41 points. Our Captain had arranged for a charity event to take place on the 8th hole where all players were invited to pay 10 Euros to see if they could win a 50” LCD TV by getting a hole in one.

All entrants were rewarded by getting a set of Prostate Cancer logo golf balls. Ian’s nominated charity this year is Prostate Cancer UK and Alfie’s Golf Society managed to raise over 600 Euros on the day which was a tremendous effort.  

The presentation was held at Crystals restaurant in La Fuente centre where the day continued into the evening and we all had a fantastic dinner and danced the night away.  As is customary on our Captains day Ian had arranged for lots of prizes and all players received a Captains Goody Bag with an Alfies branded logo ball marker and other Prostate Cancer items kindly provided by John Brownless who is one of the UK ambassadors. John played golf on the day and went away with some of the trophies provided by our Captain.

Look how close our Captain came to giving away the 50” LCD TV and the recipient would have been one of Ian’s guests John Brownless. The 8th hole is a par three which was over 220 yards long, well done John, you came very close!!!

Best front 9 score overall was won by John Brownless with a great score of 21 points, decided on count back with Dan Jones also scoring the same and again the trophy being donated by our Captain

Best back 9 score overall was won by Rachel Lee with 23 points, who won a trophy donated by the Captain.

We had a lowest putting competition that formed part of the day with players recording how many putts they had during their round and the winner was Ian Connell with 32 putts overall.

Overall Runner up for the day was John Brownless scoring 41 points won on count back from Dan Jones who had the same score.

Overall Winner for the day was Rachel Lee who also scored 41 points and won on count back from Dan Jones.

We held our normal competition on the day open to Alfie’s members only.

Silver Division Runner up was Wayne Stevenson with 31 points playing off 24.1

Silver Division Winner was Ian Harkness with 32 points playing off 23.6

Gold Division Runner up was Ove Colin with a score of 35 points playing off 17.7

Gold Division Winner was Ian Connell with 37 points playing off 17.7

Therefore, the Winner of the Prestigious Captains Cup 2018 was our society President, Ian Connell.

Alfie’s Golf Society at Lo Romero

40 members and guests from Alfie’s GS travelled to Lo Romero GC for the Sponsors Trophy on 28th June. The turnout was fantastic as we had 24 members and 16 guests who are always welcome to play golf with us. We all turned up expecting blue skies and hot sunshine but we endured some unexpected showers but this did not affect the golf performances on the day.

The course was in magnificent condition and all players enjoyed the day where the overall scoring was very high with 6 players scoring 40 points or more. This event is to celebrate the continued support of our sponsors who provide prizes for the society throughout the year which is greatly appreciated, Alfies Bar, The Celtic Drop, The Street Restaurant and finally The Old Auld Dubliner. The presentation was held back at Alfies’s bar where a buffet was enjoyed by all the players provided by Rose and Jim at Alfies Bar. As we had so many playing with us on the day it was decided to add some additional prizes details of which are provided below

Second place went to Jim Dempsey with a score of 36 stableford points.

The Winner of the gold division was Ian Connell our society president with a fantastic score of 41 stableford points. Second place went to Derek Fleet with 40 points decided on count back due to a number of players finishing on 40 points well done everyone.

Due to our high number of guests playing we had 2 prizes for our welcomed guest players. The winner of the Best Guest went to George Dawidow with 37 stableford points and second place was Mark Atkinson with a score of 34 points.

Finally the longest walk prize went to our guest Nigel Buffery.

Alfie’s Golf Society – Eclectic Cup – Second Round

Vistabella -Thursday 26th April 2018

32 members and guests from Alfie’s GS travelled to Vistabella GC for second round of our Eclectic Cup  on April 26th. After 2 days of heavy rain the course was in good condition and the greens as always quite quick with many players 3 putting on a lot of the greens.

The fairways were improving now that the warmer weather is here and it will not be long before the course is back to its very best. The presentation was held back at Alfie’s bar where a buffet was enjoyed by all the players, kindly donated by Alfie’s bar. A big thank you to Rose and Jim who provided our normal buffet back at the bar. We continued with the 2 categories “GOLD” & “SILVER”.                                                           

Our winner of the day in the silver division was Gary Armstrong with a great score of 36 stableford points playing off a handicap of 22. Gary was presented with the first prize golf vouchers and golf balls.

Second place went to Graham Lavery with 32 stableford points playing off 28.The Winner of the gold division was one of our sponsors Steve Bicks who had a score of 33 points playing off 12 and won golf vouchers and golf balls. Second place went to our current Captain Ian Ingledew who had 32 stableford points playing off 16 he has come second twice now so maybe he might be lucky next time out. Best Guest went to Sandy Ewen with 36 stableford points.
