San Miguel Golf Society Villamartin December 19th, 2018

Thirty-eight members were joined by 4 guests to take on a course that SMGS used to play regularly but visits less often nowadays. And what a momentous day it was!! Not only one hole-in-one, but two, an occurrence nobody could ever recall happening on a society day before.

The short 9th was the hole that came under attack, with Norman Padmore the first to get his 5 pointer, Mick Roscoe following him in soon afterwards. In place of buying drinks for all both donated significantly to the SMGS charity tin, much appreciated by all. This months tin is going towards a life changing operation for Millie.

https://sites.google.com/view/weve-got-your-backmillie/home Please visit and support if you can, there is a golf day at Vistabella on the 29th.

Whilst Norman and Mick were in the prizes in their Category, the best member scores of the day (37 points) were posted by Willie Fenn and Mark Russell-Smith, the only two to beat their handicaps. Russ Bond, one of the day’s guests, scored an outstanding 41 points. Scoring was generally very good, reflecting the excellent condition of the course (with the exception of some overly watered areas on approach lines), especially the excellent greens.

San Miguel Golf Society at El Valle Golf April 25th, 2018

The dire forecast of heavy rain caused many water-averse members to call off the visit to El Valle. Of the 48 names on the original start sheet, only 27 members and four guests teed off. It would be fair to say that some quickly lamented their decision to play in the sodden conditions. Of the 31 who started, only 19 completed their rounds.

Waterproofs, attire not usually required in this arid zone, were the order of the day. The deluge only halted when most had finished their round. With the wet grips on clubs spookily resembling the texture of a slippery salmon, scoring was on the low side with Colin Rust’s winning tally of 33 on CB topping the day’s efforts. Due to the depleted number of participants, the normal categories of gold, silver and bronze winners were washed away and replaced by a single group of overall winners.

Despite holing from off the 17th green, Hugh Reilly was the well-deserved winner of this week’s Abacus prize, a bottle of red wine to drown his sorrows.

Our thanks to the staff at El Valle for their understanding and contribution to the day.

The day’s results, by category and in reverse order, were the following:
