Lo Crispin Golf Society

Thirty five members and guests teed it up at La Finca golf course on 15th. May to play for the fourth time for the Jean Roberts Memorial Silver, an individual stableford competition. Meirion Roberts, one of our founder members sadly lost his wife over four years ago. Every year since Meirion and his sons have generously sponsored this event.

In addition to supplying the Salver, as in previous years also, they provided all the prizes for the event and provided an evening buffet at the Lo Crispin Tavern in the evening, when the prizes were presented to the winners by Meirion’ s two sons. The weather was more or less perfect for golf, although it did become rather warm ! The course was in very good condition, both fairways and greens. The greens for the most part were fast and true. The winners were :-

1st. Place and winner of the silver salver was Andy Quinn with 31pts. off 8

2nd. Place – Adrian Aspbury 29 pts. off 9

3rd. Place – Ray Pownall 29 pts. off 26 (on count back)

4th. Place – Sue Smith 27 pts. off 25

5th. Place – Keith Rennison 26 pts. off 28 (on count back)

6th. Place – Rod Pullen 26 pts. off 6 (on count back).

The best Guest and those playing for handicap prize was won by Andy Jones with 21 pts. off 21. Andy also provided the evening’s entertainment. In addition to possessing a ‘good voice’, he is also a credible ‘Elvis’ impersonator and all round entertainer.

  1. T. P. on Par 3s

Hole 3 – Mark Good

Hole 6 – Andy Quinn

Hole 13 – Rod Pullen

Hole 16 – Steve Harrington

Andy Quinn was also the only player to manage a 2, so was the only recipient of the 2’s pot.

The Free Game Draw was won by “just one more” Harry Wilcock.

Finally, thanks again to Meirion and his sons for a very enjoyable day and evening. Thanks also to our sponsors Fantasy Golf (in Quesada) and the Lo Crispin Tavern, whose staff played a large part in ensuring the success of the evening.

Our next game, the second of our four majors of the year, the Spring Cup (an individual stableford competion) will be at Alenda on 29th. May.

Lo Crispin Golf society at Bonalba – 31st. October

Thirty two members and guests teed it up at Bonalba in the penultimate stableford competition of 2018. Given the amount of rain in thr preceeding 24 hours, we were probably fortunate to be playing at all.

Buggies however were resticted to paths only and concessions were not afforded to those who would normally be entitled to a blue flag. This proved to annoy and frustrate may of our less mobile members, as they clearly found it tough going ! Apart from a few soggy areas the fairways were still quite firm, but balls were not running as far as usual. The consensus of many players on the day was that the the greens, and particularly the tee boxes were not in good condition.

It was also somewhat surprising that the bunkers were not deemed unplayable by the course management, in view of the volume of water in many of them. For probably all the above mentioned reasons, the scores on the day were on the poor side. Those who were fortunate enough to receive a prize on the day, received them as usual at the Lo Crispin Tavern, where we served tapas and looked after by the staff.

The winners were as follows :

Gold Division: 1st. Place – Ron Perkins 30 pts. off 10, 2nd. Place – Ron Stephenson 27 pts. off 12, 3rd. Place – Martin Barker 26 pts. off 16

Silver Division: Paul Flanaghan – 27 pts. off 23, Paddy Shea – 22 pts. off 24, Janet Candlin – 19 pts. off 33

N.T. P’s. on Par 3s: Hole 4 – Ray Pownall, Hole 8 – Ray Pownall, Hole 11 – Paul Flanaghan, Hole 14 – Andy Quinn

The 2’s pot was won by Ray Moles (Hole 4) – Paul Carter won the Free Game Draw

The next main game is the annual Nominated Pairs competition at Altoreal on 14 th. November. The next Interim Game takes place at Font del Llop on 7th. November.

Lo Crispin Golf Society at Altorreal – 7th. February 2018

The Society played an Am Am stableford team game today at Altorreal. 23 members and 1 guest took to the fairways to play this format of the game, in which the best 2 stableford scores in a fourball are recorded and the Team with the best score over 18 holes are the winners etc.

The fairways and greens at Altorreal are generally in good condition, and this day was no exception. Most golfers commented that the Greens were very fast. Although the sun shone throughout the day, it remained cold all day, but nobody complained too much! After the game, as usual we returned to the Lo Crispin Tavern, where we were supplied with Tapas and a warm welcome.

The husband and wife team of Brian and Sue Smith, along with Adrian Aspbury and Bill Croft proved to be the winners on the day. In second place was the team comprised of : Brian Coultate, Mike Cutts, John Henderson, plus ‘blind partner’.

NTP on Par 3s : Hole 5 – John Henderson, Hole 8 – John Dunnion, Hole 10 – Paul Flanaghan, Hole 17 – Steve Harrington.

There were two 2s : Steve Harrington and John Henderson. Lastly, the free game raffle was won by Ray Pownall.

The next main game, an individual stableford will be at Roda on 21st. February, with the next interim game at Vistabella on 14th. February, also an individual stableford game.

Lo Crispin Golf Socety at Lo Romero – 24th. January 2918

The Society played its 2nd. main game of the year at Lo Romero, where this year we are holding our 2018 Eclectic Competition. The sun was shining, if a little cold, but there was little wind. Fortunately these conditions prevailed throughout the day, except for becoming a little warmer, resulting in almost perfect golfing weather.

The investment and work to maintain the Course in excellent condition was immediately and visibly apparent, as the all the water around the signature 18th. hole had been drained completely.

We were informed by a member of the Course staff that, every 5 years or so the water is drained so that leaks can be detected and repaired, It was indicated by him also that the water level will be raised to make it even more visibly attractive.

He also informed us interestingly that as many as 40k balls were cleared from the bottom of the water!! When we started the round no balls were visible around the dried up 18th. island green, but by the time my 4 ball reached it there was a good number of balls had clearly failed to stay on the putting surface.

After the game, as usual we went back to the Lo Crispin Tavern as usual, where as  we treated to tapas and a warm welcome. The scoring and prize winners were as follows :

Gold Division: 1st. Place – Adrian Aspbury 33pts. off 11, 2nd. Place – Harry Wilcock 31pts. off 15, 3rd. Place – Ray Brown 30pts. off 11

Silver Division: 1st. Place – Bill Acton 28pts.off 28, 2nd. Place – Steve Harrington 27pts. off 22 (on count back), 3rd.Place – Ian Blincoe – 27pts.off 28

Guest Prize – T. White – 33pts. playing off 11 and there were no 2’s on the day.

NTP’s on Par 3s: Hole 5 – Dicky Claeys, Hole 7 – Dave Norton, Hole 12 – Steve Harrington, Hole 15 – Nobody was able to reach or stay on the putting surface.

It turned out to be quite a good day for Ian Blincoe, who also won the free game raffle draw. The next main game is at Altorreal on 7th. February and the 2nd. interim game on 31st. January at Font Del Llop.

Anyone interested in joining a fair and friendly society, or fancy a round with us as a guest should contact any member of the Committee, whose contact details can be found on the Society website.
